The residence with a long layout locates at the peak of the Hong Kong Island, inside a historic 3-story building. The client expects a total renovation over the old condition where the spaces are cramped and separated.
The core idea of the renovation is to enlarge and connect the previously isolated spaces, while keeping the architectural feature of the building itself, such as the skylight and the naturally lit glass block corridor. The study room makes room for the porch, together with the kitchen to form a continuous open living/dining space with a fully planted balcony, creating a vector directed to the nature. Meanwhile, colorful cushions and furnishings are selected, cultured stone and wood stripes are used on the wall to enhance the vivid living environment the design presents.
A sliding panel breaks the border of the study room and the dining area. When it is open, it embraces visual connection and enlarges the space recognition of the small room. Two sliding doors of the study room increase the flexibility of the space division between the private bedroom area and the living/dining area. The master bedroom can be more spacious and secure by opening the two doors next to the television cabinet and fix them to the back wall using electric lock.
